A DEAD MESSIAH IN A BORROWED TOMB

As Christians, we celebrate Easter as the ultimate triumph over sin and death. But what about the day between Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection? Easter Saturday is a day of waiting, a day of darkness, a day of uncertainty. It’s a day that we often overlook in the midst of the excitement and rejoicing of Easter Sunday. However, Easter Saturday is important in our journey of faith.

Imagine what it must have been like for the disciples on Easter Saturday. More than dealing with a dead messiah in a borrowed tomb, they had just witnessed the brutal execution of their beloved teacher and friend and now they were left to grapple with the devastating reality of his death. They were filled with fear, doubt, and confusion. Their faith in and love of Jesus had motivated the disciples to risk it all and sacrifice everything to follow Him - and now he was dead. What were they supposed to do?

But even in the midst of their despair, the disciples clung to the promises that Jesus had given them. They wanted to believe that he would rise again, just as he had said. They may not have fully understood what that meant at the time, but they still held onto hope.

We too, can find hope and comfort in the waiting that Easter Saturday demands. We may be facing our own dark and uncertain circumstances, but we can trust that God is still at work. Jesus’ death and resurrection was not just a one-time event, but it is a reality that we can experience every day. It is a reminder that no matter how hopeless our situation may seem, God has the power to bring new life out of death.

So on this Easter Saturday, let us take a moment to sit in the quiet and wait for the hope of Easter morning. Let us trust in the promises of God, even when we can’t yet see them. And let us remember that just as Easter Sunday brought light and joy to the world, God can bring new life and hope to our darkest days.
